The Academy of American Poets inaugurated National Poetry Month in 1996. Their Web site is a good place to start for an overview of this year's celebration.
The Academy also offers a listening room. Hear your favorite poets reading their own poetry, and other authors' work, too.
In keeping with this year's theme "Poetry in Your Community," the American Poetry and Literacy Project will be distributing free copies of its new anthology, Across State Lines: America's 50 States as Represented in Poetry. Check out the activities of this proactive organization.
