Artists & Educators

Austin Okinawa Tomonokai
An organization that was founded in 1980 as part of the International Tomonokai in order to promote goodwill, friendship and increase the understanding of Okinawa’s distinctive traditional arts such as music and dance among its members and the community. There are two types of dances which we perform. Our traditional dance, which is performed in beautiful costumes, are elegant and graceful. Our Eisa drum dance is very energetic and exciting.

Okinawa, also known as Ryukyu Island, is located Southwest of the mainland Japan. On a world map, Okinawa is a mere dot in the Pacific Ocean. It can be found between the mainland Japan and Taiwan. It is a beautiful tropical island with coral sand beaches. The largest concentration of U.S. forces in Japan is found on Okinawa.
