![]() ![]() Artists & EducatorsThe Blanton Museum Art Builds Community (ABC) is a partnership between The Blanton Museum of Art Student Guild and the Austin Public Library. By participating in the ABC program, Student Guild volunteers, who are also UT students, reach out to the Austin community and gain experience leading art making activities with K-12 students. ABC volunteers visit Austin libraries weekly during the fall and spring semesters and facilitate art projects that are adapted from art-based storybooks. The Blanton provides instruction and art-making materials. The lessons are diverse, and incorporate projects based on the work of artists, including Jacob Lawrence, Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Frida Kahlo, and Juan Quezado. Students work with clay, textiles, and other diverse media to create works inspired by the artists and their stories. As the principal art museum in a major metropolitan area and state capital, the Blanton is committed to be a welcoming place for all visitors, building a lively and engaged community of art lovers of all ages, and serving as a gateway between the University, the city of Austin, and the state. The Blanton Museum of Art is one of the foremost university art museums in the country and the leading art museum serving Austin and Central Texas. The Blanton's permanent collection of more than 17,000 works is recognized for it's Old Master paintings, modern and contemporary American and Latin American art, and an encyclopedic collection of prints and drawings. As the only art museum in Austin with a permanent collection of substantial range and depth, the Blanton serves multiple audiences, offering a wide range of special exhibitions and public programs while developing teaching, research, and educational initiatives. As the art museum of The University of Texas at Austin, a flagship institution of higher learning in Texas, the Blanton enriches the cultural life of the state.
