Give Respect, Get Respect
Austin Public Library’s Wired for Youth (WFY) Program is partnering with the Center for Disease Control’s “Choose Respect” Campaign during the week of April 25-30. APL's WFY Program is proud to be part of this cool campaign, launched to promote and encourage positive and respectful relationship behaviors in preteens and teens between the ages of 11 and 14.
How can you participate? All ten Wired for Youth Centers will be hosting a music video contest during the week. To participate, simply go to the Choose Respect website and create your own music video. The winner of the most creative music video at each branch library location will win a prize. Additionally, judges will select the best overall music video from all eligible contest entries and the creator of that video will be awarded a special grand-prize.
To find out more, see Video Music Design Contest.
In addition to the weeklong music video contest, guest speakers from SafePlace will be hosting programs for preteens and teens at the Windsor Park, Ruiz, and Carver branches of the Austin Public Library during the week. The program at Windsor Park is scheduled to take place on Monday, April 25 from 5:30-6 p.m. and is intended for an audience of both boys and girls, ages 11-14. The program at Ruiz is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, April 26 from 6-6:30 p.m. and is intended for boys only, ages 11-14. The program at Carver is scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 28 from 4:30-5 p.m. and is intended for girls only, ages 11-14.
The Choose Respect campaign will also be airing television and radio public announcements through May, so be on the lookout to Choose Respect!
