Among the James
Patterson PageTurner Award winners are libraries, schools, bookstores, and innovative individuals and organizations that go to extraordinary lengths to spread the joy of books and reading across the country.
2006 Texas Library Association Award
The TLA award is given each year in recognition of distinguished service to Texas librarianship over a number of years and also acknowledges creative leadership and service to TLA. The 2006 award recipient was Austin Public Library’s Youth Services program “Second Chance Books: Bringing Literature to Incarcerated Kids.”
2005 Hotho Literacy Award
The Hotho Literacy Award was established to recognize the Texas library
that has worked the hardest during the year to encourage and support the joy and benefits of reading.
This annual award of $1000 was presented to the Austin Public Library at the TLA Conference in April 2005.
2003 Tocker Foundation Grant
The Tocker Foundation was established to make library services accessible
to individuals who, by reason of distance, residence, handicap, age, literacy level or other disadvantage,
are unable to receive the benefits of public library services. In 2003, the Second Chance Book Project
was awarded $500.
