Contests

All summer Wired for Youth Centers will hold contests where you can learn something new, show off your skills, and win PRIZES!

WFY Games Challenge
June 9-13
Take a break from the sizzling summer heat and compete in the ultra-cool WFY Online Games Challenge! Challenge your fellow players in a variety of Internet games! Be prepared to use your wits and game-playing skills! Do you have what it takes to be the WFY Online Games Challenge Champion?

Create Your Dream Vacation (in PowerpointTM) Contest
June 16-20
Where do you dream of traveling this summer? Oh, we know you love the Wired for Youth Center, but if you could go anywhere you wanted, would you be swimming in the ocean, or climbing a mountain, or exploring outer space? You’ll have your chance to create a dream vacation slide show using Power Point software and your imagination.

FireworksTM Stop-Action Movie Contest
June 23-27
Create your own short film! After all, Austin is a booming town for movies. Learn how to make the most basic movie: stop-action. A picture is taken of each scene and movement then strung together to make a “flipbook” type movie. Students will set scenes and recruit actors to star in their short silent film. Each scene will be shot with a digital camera and pieced together using Fireworks software. Movies will be uploaded to the WFY Web page for everyone to see!

Pixel-TeesTM T-Shirt Design Contest
June 30-July 3
Design your very own pixilated masterpiece using the Pixeltees shirt machine from Austin’s Alan Watts, the very same mastermind that is behind our beloved 16Colors software. Whoever comes up with the best design wins a shirt.

SwishTM Story Animation Contest!
July 7- 11
Have a great summer story? How about a poem? Write a short story or poem and then animate your words using Swish software. Watch your words wiggle, explode, and spin. See your story come alive.

Mini-Me Videocam Biography Contest
July 14-18
You have one minute to tell your entire story. Who are you? What happens in your world? Learn to storyboard a VERY short film. Then film it with our digital video camera. Work in groups or individually. Be the author, director, star, prop, costume department, and cinematographer. One action-packed week only!

Photo Transformation Contest
July 21-25
All you need is a little bit of creativity - we’ll provide the rest, including the digital camera to take the photo, the computer, and the software you need to turn your photo into an original work of art! No experience is necessary because we will teach you how to use Photoshop 5.0 to transform your image into a masterpiece! Join the fun, learn something new, and create a one-of-a-kind image that might just win your Center’s WFY Photo Transformation Contest!
